Building a Better Bif

My name is Troy but you can call me Bif.
Have you ever just wanted to reinvent yourself? Have you ever felt like your life has gotten off track? Or feel like your batteries are drained, and you need a jump-start?
That's how I feel.
I need a change.
I need to focus a little more on me and get myself back on track. It's time to start... and finish... some Bif Improvement Projects.

I'm still here

Sorry... I haven't blogged in a while. My life has been pretty crazy lately. I'll tell you about it sometime.

Any-hoo... I HAVE been trying very hard to eat less. I haven't exercised hardly at all (bad Bif), but I have started significantly changing my eating habits.

For one, and the biggest thing for me... I'm eating out less. Breakfast, lunch, dinner... all the above. I'm taking the extra time to have breakfast at home. I'm bringing lunch as often as I can. Actually, on Mondays I take to work a loaf of bread, a pound of ham lunchmeat, a bag of chips, some cheese slices and some other snacky stuff (wasabi peas, mixed nuts, etc.), and then I eat that all week. And Rosie has been doing a lot more cooking in the evenings for dinner instead of eating out or ordering pizza.

Second, and this ties to the above very well... I am eating healthier. Little things, but it makes a big difference. A giant burrito and a coke from Qdoba is like 2400 calories and $10.00. A ham sandwich with chips and water is like 1000 calories and costs maybe $1.25. I'm no more "full" after a burrito than a ham sandwich.

Third, I'm really trying to work on proportions. I've decided that a big part of my weight problem is that I eat WAYYYYYYY too much. Sure, the quality is bad, but the quantity is unreal. I've realized that I THINK that I need to eat a giant burrito and chips and a coke to be full. But that is NOT TRUE. Eating just a little bit of good, healthy food will fill me up. In fact, I will feel even BETTER because I'm not lethargic an hour later. So how do I undo 35 years of bad food habits? I'm tricking myself. Totally psyching myself out. At least one and preferrably 2 meals a day I'm preparing only a very small (for me) amount of food, eating it and then starting some other project. I go back to work, or start reading, or go for a walk, or whatever. I get interested in what I'm doing and forget about the food. Guess what? I'm still not hungry until dinner time. I've proven over and over and over that a very small amount of food is plenty.

The bad news is that I'm still cheating a lot. Plenty of cokes and desserts and seconds and pizza and cheesesteak and fries... you get the picture. So I still haven't lost any weight, but I feel really good about laying a solid foundation of better eating habits that I will be able to use soon to really start living a healthier lifestyle.

At least that's what I'm telling myself.

We need to do some kind of competition. Something to keep us motivated.

How about the one who loses the greatest percentage of body fat gets a $100 McDonalds coupon. (Just kidding).

Glad to see you're blogging dude. At least you're not talking about your lawn like some losers! (who live in northern Virginia)
